Have you done what all the “experts” and coaches out there told you to do — and created a sales funnel or tripwire for your cool digital product? That’s awesome! I know that sales funnels are no small feat.
But there’s one little problem: Your sales funnel or digital product isn’t selling. What gives?
Let’s say you’re a video strategist who created a guide to getting started with YouTube, and you followed all the “recommended” steps. You created the free opt-in with a few tips, then the tripwire or nurture sequence, and then you let people know how they can get ALL your YouTube tips inside your full (paid) guide.
That’s all great. But why isn’t it selling? Honestly, it’s because you’re playing “hide the ball” (or in this case, “hide the solution”) with your customers.
Your customers have a problem (like “I don’t know how to get started with YouTube). They need a solution, not part of a solution, and not a drawn-out solution. So give it to them! Stop trying to hide it where it’s only accessible in a funnel.
Instead, why not make that digital product the whole offer? What if they went to the right page on your site when they were searching for a solution and bought your offer right then and there?
That’s what possible with an online shop vs. a sales funnel. You open more opportunities for people to see that you have what they need: the solution to their problem.
While sales funnels can be useful, I personally think (and have the numbers to back it up) that they can actually detract from your digital product success when you’re first starting out. People want to know that you have authority and expertise, which is where creating consistent content and getting your face out there can help. But once they know, like, and trust you, just let them buy the dang thing.
In my sales success program, Simple Sustained Shop Sales, I walk you through the 8 steps I’ve created to help you finally sell more of your digital products and create truly passive income. And no, none of them are sales funnels.
